“We were perfectly happy until we decided to live happily ever after.” -Sex and the City
What's with the rush to get married? I've been engaged three times and married once (that didn't work out) needless to say personally I enjoy the engagement part more. It seems lately that everyone is in a hurry to get married, got engaged then year later getting married, then baby....hold up put the brakes on.
Really some people date for 5, 6 10 years before they get married. But once that engagement ring is on it's off to the freakin races. What's the rush? Personally I am looking for a guy who is all into loooong engagements. Why not enjoy all that the engagement period has to offer? Not totally sure what that is but heck everyone seems soooo happy to be engaged enjoy it.
The last guy I was engaged to was 'so hurt' (his words) that I was not itching to pick a date right away. I kid you not. Let's face it you spend a whole year planning, picking colors, dresses, locations, chicken or steak...blah, blah, blah. All the whoha for ONE day. That you don't really get to enjoy cause you are all stressed about it being perfect or whatever. Then off you go on holiday, return home and go to work. Yeah....not.
I think a good 5-10 year engagement is in order. You can save up money and pay for your wedding instead of robbing your parents of their retirement. What a nice challenge for the couple to work towards together...ah. You get to know each other, make sure you are growing together in the same direction. Well, heck if it all falls apart and you go your separate ways before the 5-10 is up bonus...no need for an attorney...your not married.. oh and you can just split your savingings. Joy!
Now the only down side is the whole living in sin part. But really enough good deeds and the big may just give you a pass.

I'm with you, Miss E! The only one that worked out for me was living together for 4 years, then a one year engagement. Ten years later (after the wedding) we're still going strong--15 years total. You have to do what is right for YOU!
