Road less travelled
This weekend I'm headed up north with some girlfriends, a 3 hour drive a girls weekend. We happen to be going to a town in Minnesota that none of us have been to. When I mentioned this to a guy friend recently his first question was....'So you guys got a Garmin?' Say, what? Um, no.....we got an old fashioned map. It's a town of like 40,000 people....how lost can we get.
I like all the technology advances and I was totally stoked today when I found out Google Maps now include bike routes. But the Garmins and TomToms people have really gone overboard. What is wrong with just stopping and asking directions? Get out of your little car bubble and meet a local.
Couple of years ago a friend and I drove 9 hours to Kentucky for a party and horse race...neither one of us had ever been there and our rental car didn't have a Garmin. Hold your hat.....yes, we got lost, twice. Whipped through part of Ohio, then through some rolling back roads of Kentucky. It was so pretty, you know off the major interstate. To this day we laugh about it and how great we would be on Amazing Race.
Here's a tip instead of letting the map system plot the course for you get a map and just drive. Take a wrong road, yes go the wrong way.... you might just stumble upon something cool.
